Payroll and Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant will serve as a business partner to Bigos operations staff, assisting with all financial matters related to property management. The Staff Accountant coordinates accounting activities and processes for the organization under the direction of the Accounting Supervisor. This role is also responsible for timely and accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll in ADP Workforce Now.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Accounting
•    Perform all activities necessary to process payroll (in ADP Workforce Now) in a timely and accurate manner, including but not limited to: maintaining related records, voluntary deduction reports, processing involuntary deductions such as levies and garnishments
•    Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal wage and hour laws
•    Maintain accurate payroll records and prepare clear and accurate reports for auditing and operational use
•    Reconcile and analyze communities’ general ledgers for accuracy
•    Review and analyze communities’ month-end reports ensuring compliance with Bigos policies and procedures
•    Prepare financial reporting – monthly, quarterly, and annually for both internal and external statement users
•    Facilitate statement users’ understanding and accurate interpretation of financial results
•    Assist with year-end processes including audit, compilation, and tax services provided by public accountants
•    Maintain strong financial controls
•    Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements, enforce adherence to requirements and advise management regarding necessary actions
•    Maintain confidence and protect operations by keeping financial information confidential
•    Communicate with colleagues, communities, and business partners in a courteous and professional manner

Finance
•    Assist with the annual budget process. Use in-depth knowledge of assigned communities’ business activities to provide value to the budget process and ensure consistency among Bigos Management communities
•    Provide assistance to property management (on-site and regional) to facilitate evaluation and understanding of financial results
•    Assist with meeting the information compliance requirements of banks, mortgage companies, bond holders, and government agencies
•    Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:    
•    Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in Accounting or a related field, 2 years of financial accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job 
•    Experience in the multi-unit real estate industry and experience with budgeting and financial analysis techniques preferred
•    Full general ledger accounting system knowledge
•    Basic understanding of financial statement preparation
•    Knowledge of year-end processes, including third party audit and tax services
•    Understanding of payroll and payroll tax laws
•    Computer equipment and software knowledge
•    Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel skills
•    Yardi Voyager software experience preferred
      Experience in ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred
